                    FasType for Windows -- Version 5.0


                 I M P O R T A N T   I N F O R M A T I O N
                 -----------------------------------------


                            Welcome to FasType
                            ==================


     NOTE: Please  take a  few moments to carefully read this file, it
     will give  you an  overview of  hardware/software requirements to
     run FasType,  including simple installation instructions, and how
     to quickly get started using FasType.

          FasType  for   Windows  is   a   typing   tutorial   program
     SPECIFICALLY designed  for PC's  running  the  Microsoft  Windows
     Operating  System.    This  includes  Windows  3.1,  Windows  for
     Workgroups, Windows/NT,  and Windows  95, using  high-quality VGA
     and  SVGA  plus  the  101-Key  Standard  Keyboard.    The  simple
     installation instructions that follow will get you up and running
     quickly.



     HARDWARE/SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

          FasType is  distributed on  one 1.44MB 3.5" diskette; on CD-
     ROM, or  by various  BBS's and  on-line  services,  and  has  the
     following minimum requirements to run properly:

          o  Any 386, 486, or Pentium computer
          o  Windows-95; Windows 3.1; Windows for Workgroups; or
             Windows-NT
          o  4MB RAM, (8MB recommended)
          o  A HARD DISK with at least 2MB of available space
          o  VGA or SVGA display capability - (will NOT work on EGA or
             CGA)
          o  One floppy disk drive or CD-ROM to install disk or CD-ROM
             distributed versions.
          o  101-Key Enhanced keyboard or equivalent.


                  ****   INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS   ****

          If you  downloaded FasType  from a  BBS or  on-line service,
     then you have to first un-zip the file into a temporary directory
     then run SETUP from the temporary directory.

          If  you're   installing  from   either  a  sub-directory,  a
     temporary directory,  or from  a distribution  floppy or  CD-ROM,
     simply perform the following steps:

          o  Bring up Windows
          o  Run SETUP using either the Windows File Manager, or the
             Run... menu selection. If you're running from the File
             Manager, select the PATH where FasType's SETUP.EXE
             program resides, and click on it to start the SETUP
             process.
          o  From the FILE/RUN menu, type A:SETUP or B:SETUP or
             whichever floppy or CD-ROM address the FasType files
             reside.

          o  Follow the instructions as you proceed through the
             install process.

     At the end of installation, the setup program will create a
     Program Group with several icons. You'll be prompted with a list
     of selections for what to do next.


     IMPORTANT NOTE: FasType CANNOT be installed onto and run from
     floppy disks!



     TO RUN FASTYPE:
          Before you  can run  FasType, it  must be  "installed" under
     Windows.    See  the INSTALLATION  INSTRUCTIONS  above  for  more
     information.  From the FasType Program Group, double-click on the
     ICON that says FASTYPE.


     WHAT TO DO NEXT:
          The Title  Window will appear and stay in view while FasType
     loads  its  tables  and  auxiliary  files.  Next,  the  Shareware
     Information screen  will  appear.    Please  read  it  carefully;
     FasType is  distributed on  a try-before-you-buy  basis, and  you
     have 30  days to  evaluate the  program.  Click on OK to get past
     this screen.

               ONCE YOU'VE  EXCEEDED THE  EVALUATION PERIOD,
               THE STARTUP  GRAPHIC SCREEN AND ALL SHAREWARE
               INFORMATION  SCREENS   WILL  PERSIST  ON  THE
               DISPLAY FOR  LONGER  AND  LONGER  PERIODS  OF
               TIME.  HOWEVER, YOU WILL STILL BE ABLE TO USE
               FASTYPE AND  ALL AVAILABLE  FEATURES!  PLEASE
               READ  THE   OPENING  AND   CLOSING  SHAREWARE
               INFORMATION SCREENS FOR MORE DETAILS.

     SELECTING MENU ITEMS:
          Choose a  Typing Drill or Exercise from the SKILL MENU, then
     click the  mouse on  START TYPING,  or --  more preferably,  type
     <Alt>+<s> to select the menu item START TYPING from the keyboard.


     WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO:
          For DRILLS:  Place the fingers of each hand on the home keys
     (ASDF JKL;) and type each letter as you are prompted for it.  The
     program selects the letters randomly.  When the drill is finished
     your "Words Per Minute" (WPM) score and other information will be
     displayed on a typing statistics screen.

          For EXERCISES:   lines  of text  will be displayed above the
     screen keyboard;  type each character pointed to by the character
     pointer (there  are four  to choose  from) and when you reach the
     paragraph marker  symbol or end of the line, press the enter key,
     or the  space bar.   When you finish typing the exercise your WPM
     and other statistics will be displayed.

          To STOP  TYPING, you can press the ESCAPE key anytime, click
     the mouse on the STOP TYPING menu item, or type <Alt>+<s> again.


     EVALUATION PERIOD:
          You  are  licensed  to  operate  FasType  on  your  personal
     computer for  evaluation as  to its usefulness to you, on a trial
     basis for  30 days.   We  believe this to be a fair and equitable
     time period  for evaluation  and we trust your good judgement and
     sense of  fair play  in making  a decision regarding purchase and
     registration. See  the file SHARWARE.TXT or click on the "What is
     Shareware" icon  in the FasType Typing Tutorial program group for
     a detailed  explanation  of  what  Shareware  is  and  how  using
     Shareware programs can benefit you.


     DOCUMENTATION:
          The FasType  User Guide is located in the DOCS sub-directory
     and can  be viewed  using the Windows WRITE Applet in the Fastype
     Typing Tutorial  program group.   While  in WRITE, you can format
     and print the document too.  But, if you REGISTER FasType, you'll
     receive a  handsomely bound  and printed  User Guide so you don't
     have to waste all that computer paper.

     ATTENTION EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS AND CORPORATE TRAINING
     FACILITIES

     SITE AND RIGHT-TO-COPY LICENSES
          Site licenses  and right-to-copy  licenses are available for
     all organizations.   FasType must be licensed for use in a class-
     room environment.  Educational institutions requesting "LAB-PACK"
     pricing can  use our  Right-To-Copy license  and price  schedule.
     Read and/or  print  the  file  named  LICENSE.WRI  for  licensing
     provisions, a complete contract, and full pricing schedule.


     DATED SOFTWARE:
          If today's date (the date you are reading this) is a year or
     more later  than the date of the files on this distribution disk,
     than please  contact Trendtech  Corporation for information about
     the availability of a more current version of FasType.  Shareware
     tends to  "acquire a life of its own" once it's released; not all
     vendors and  BBS sysops  will bother  to  update  to  the  latest
     version from  the author.   That  is why  you should  only buy or
     download Shareware  from disk vendors or BBS's who are members of
     "The Association of Shareware Professionals" (A.S.P.)


     FUTURE PRICING:
          The "Single-User" registration price and all site and right-
     to-copy  license   prices  for  FasType  are  guaranteed  through
     December 31,  1999.   If you're  reading this  file now and we're
     already in  the third  millennium, chances  are  there's  been  a
     registration and  licensing  price  increase.    Contact  us  for
     availability and pricing.


     VIRUSES:
          You can  only be  sure of  getting a  top-quality virus-free
     version of  any ASP  Shareware product  by  obtaining  your  copy
     directly from  the author,  or from  a  disk  vendor  who  is  an
     Associate Member  of the  Association of Shareware Professionals,
     or from  a reputable  BBS service.   Be suspicious of any program
     you download  from a  BBS or of a disk obtained from a local disk
     vendor, whose  file dates  or copyright notices are more than two
     years old.   If  it's a  Shareware product,  contact  the  author
     directly for information about current versions.


     TO PRINT THIS FILE:
          If you're  using NOTEPAD or WRITE to read this file, you can
     print it  to your printer by simply selecting File/Print from the
     menu.     If  you're   reading  this  file  using  your  favorite
     Wordprocessor or  Text Editor,  then just  follow the  software's
     instructions for printing text files to the printer.
